Farthest I can go off top of my head is my Grandfather, Luther Thomas Bowers (B. 4-8-'05, D. @ 4-12-'93); bros. James & Thomas to name a few), from central Iowa. I believe his father moved to IA from NE Missouri in early 1900's. Might be confusing with my mother's line, but I think our branch came from upper NY in mid 1800s. I'll be back.

I have always gotten lots of comments about the name (often confused with the Bauers of "The Guiding Light" soap opera). The worst is a guy in high school used to call me Lisa "Bowels". (Never got that one again!) My grandfather Zeno Graham Bowers grew up in Eastern NC and died when my dad was six (1940). My grandmother remarried, and so I never knew the Bowers family well.

How many of us have been taunted in little league by being called--Bowels. Nice to hear from all who share common experiences. I was born in 1951. My father is Thomas V. Bowers. His father was Thomas O. Bowers. My grandfather was a sharecropper who came to SC from the Dahlonega are of northeast Georgia. Don't know a lot more geneology than that. I have been told that we are primarily Scotch/Irish and Cherokee. Great site. Ray, I am also an amatuer photographer, although juggling is beyond my limited dexterity. I also collect antique cameras and do woodworking.

My paternal grandfather was born in Waynesboro, PA in 1910 (I think) and died in 1995 in Traverse City, Michigan where he resided for many years. His mother's maiden name was Trostle. Cletus Bowers has a brother in Waynesboro named Meryl (married to Velva) and they have a son, Bruce (who I last saw at my grandfather's funeral). He had 3 brothers, Mason, Cecil, and Frank. He had 3 sisters, Magalene, Ila, and J.V. Their parents were Jim and Verdie. My Dad Haywood passed away in June of 1988. Frank and Ila are the only two remaining. I am married to Shannon Spears Bowers formerly of Nashville, TN. The inscription on the back says: "Jay Bowers This was taken in January '54 just before he was 3 - Feb 8, 54. He thinks he looks a little like Tommy when he was small." The photo has mountains in the background and cactus in front of a house in the back. I seem to remember visting relatives in California about that time, although I don't remember if it was my father's side (Maginnis) or my mother's side (Kautz). We were from Hampton VA where my father was stationed. I was born in VA on 2 October 46. Let me know if this fits.
